Nikolaus Heid founded a workshop in Manderscheid, Germany in 1872 and started to develop and produce grain sorting machines. In principle, this technology still exists today. He soon had increasing success with it.
The prospering K&K Monachrie in Austria attracted many engineers and entrepreneurs at the time, so Heid was drawn to the Danube monarchy and in 1883 he founded his then small factory in Stockerau near Vienna. He thus laid the foundation for a company - HEID Maschinenfabrik AG, which has become a global company for many decades and has gained international recognition in the field of seed preparation, machine tools, clutches and brakes.
